Children and Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Young People Project - February 2008

‘Just 4 Youth’ worked in partnership with Middlesbrough CAMHS and the Middlesbrough Healthy Schools Initiative on a Mental Health Awareness Campaign for students and teachers.

This work involved bringing together young people who has accessed CAMHS, with other young people, to share experiences in order for them to identify the best ways of raising awareness of issues relating to mental health in a positive manner. The aim of this was to reduce the stigma associated with mental health amongst young people. The young people involved have produced a DVD that can be used as a training resource for students, teachers, youth workers etc.

The young people identified the DVD as a favourite approach to raising awareness and this is now being shown in schools, colleges, youth centres etc and delivered with a workshop as part of PSHE lessons. The Young People decided to name the campaign ‘What’s Up? This project directly involved 15 young people in the planning, design and delivery and is reaching a wide audience of other young people across Middlesbrough.
