FACTSHEET ‘Youth Advisory Board for the regional 14-19 Commission’ The aim of the
14-19 reform programme is that by the age of 19, every young person should have been prepared by their education to succeed
in life. To achieve this aim we need to get young people to stay in learning now, get them on the right courses, keep
them there and help them to achieve. A North East 14-19 Commission has been established that brings
key regional stakeholders together to support the delivery of this Agenda. ‘Just 4 Youth’, The Regional Youth Work Unit North East and Stockton
Youth Service are coordinating a joint approach to develop a youth advisory board for the regional 14 – 19 commission. They will develop a process by which not only a handful, but hundreds of young people
across the North East will be able to contribute to the work of the 14 – 19 commission. The project will work on four
different but inter-related levels. 1. The Youth Advisory Board will be made up of 12 young people who will form the
core group of the Board and will act as conduit for the views of other young people in the North East. 2. The establishment of a virtual Youth Advisory Portal;
which can be accessed by any young person in the North East. 3. Two young people will be employed, as Youth Coordinators, to support the work
of the Board and retain the virtual network process. 4. The Coordinators will develop and deliver a regional conference on 14 –
19 education issues in the autumn of 2008. This regional conference will be open
to all young people in the North East and will be delivered jointly by adults and young people. |
