Just 4 Youth's ground breaking project to youth proof the annual policing plan for Cleveland Police, which was completed for the second year running in September, has gained high praise from a Government Minister.
The Policing Minister, Vernon Coaker met with Lisa Harvey and Nathan James of Just 4 Youth during a visit to the Association of Police Authorities’ annual conference in Gateshead and made special mention of the project during his speech. Mr Coaker said, "Too often the actions of a small minority of young people overshadow the good behaviour of the vast majority who make a positive contribution to the lives of those around them. There is not an either/or option in tackling youth crime: we need both tough enforcement and effective preventative measures to drive down youth crime and anti-social behaviour. But we also need to listen to the views of young people themselves. Led by young people, for young people, Just 4 Youth is an excellent example of an organisation which has helped to improve the important relationship between young people and the police.”
Said Police Authority Chair Councillor Dave McLuckie “It was good that the minister was able to see for himself the innovative work going on in Cleveland and meet up with some of the young people involved in the project. It has been a real success in both reaching out to young people and giving those involved a chance to develop new skills and experience.”
