Two years ago, the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund joined with the Healthy Schools initiative to implement the Every Child Matters outcome into schools.
King's Manor School in Middlesbrough received funding from NRF to promote the ECM agenda. They chose to focus on the Staying Safe outcome, and decided to set up the peer education project to ensure its success.
Just 4 Youth were commissioned to deliver sessions on the 3 main topics which the young people at the school had decided the project should tackle - Racism, Bullying and Smoking.
Youth Support Workers trained other young people to be able to deliver each session and supported them while they prepared for each topic and through the actual delivery. Then pupils were trained so that they could train the next cohort and ensure they project continues.
As a result of this project, King's Manor won the Healthy School Award for the Middlesbrough area.
